Biography: Plus 1

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Plus 1 grew up listening to a wide variety of music. Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, D.O.C. and Fela Kuti are just some of the many artists that he credits as influences. In 1993, Plus 1’s family moved to San Jose, California, where he would meet future friends and form hip hop collectives Totem Pole Tactics and Packslangers.

Developing rhymes and beats, Plus 1 has honed his craft with a pen as well as other instruments, mastering the MPC 2000xl and also working with the KORG Triton, Roland XP-80, EPS and ASR keyboards, and Fruity Loops software. In 2001, he recorded an independently-released project under the name Vivid, which gained much popularity in both the south bay and San Diego areas. As of late, Plus 1 has continued to develop as a beat-maker and is currently working on a solo project which will feature guest emcees. The project, ON THE UNDER, FROM THE CEILING, is slated to come out on Loud Minority Records this winter.
